For Church Councils and Congregational Study Groups

A good place to start would be the Assembly’s DocByte on the Lord’s Supper (this is one of a number of useful short resources for Church Council/congregational reflection; see the collection here.)

Joan Huyser-Honig’s article, Lord’s Supper Practice in the Reformed and Presbyterian Tradition, is useful first orientation to questions of traditional practice, some of the obstacles preventing a shift to weekly communion, and some of the elements of a communion service.

For an accessible, lay-friendly introduction to the purpose of worship, try Robert Webber’s Ancient-Future Worship.
